You never know about the MM quilt. One day when you are back to sewing just for you it might be time to indulge in a masterpiece red and green quilt. That's what I keep telling myself, at least.

You took great DC pictures! It made me realize that I take too much for granted and need to stop and savor the privlege of having such sites so close by. Thanks for the visit and giving us a reason to enjoy the DAR again.

When I get stuck, I put it on the couch and work on something else. Then while I work, I can stare at it and eventually it comes to me, if not, I hide it away;)

When I saw the quilt blocks I thought a Blue calico (dark blue) with a small white print. That is my suggestion. I have in the past gone for a matchy matchy look. After looking at it I realize I need to go in the other direction. Whichever that may be depending on the quilt. My quilt tops talk. LOL

Maybe a plaid for the background in the last one? I like the second-to-last with a more contrasting sashing. With my own stuff, I have to fight all the time against having things blend too much. I guess my brain really likes to cut it close when it comes to contrast :-).

How about just a little more contrast in your alternate blocks of your first setting instead of the matching fabric - either lighter or darker than any of the options you showed? ... same idea for some of the others. I could see a dark dark pink for some of the latter settings.

We love the Old Ebbit Grill, it was one of our favorites during our 18 months in DC. I also got to frequent the Renwick Gallery often as it was one block from my office. Always enjoyed their exhibits.
