Jo’s Little Women’s Club 16 for 2017

The ladies on the Jo Morton Stitchers Facebook Group are making tracks on their WIP/UFO lists. We enjoy seeing their finishes or the fact they moved a larger project forward.

If you don’t have enough to do, check with your local or favorite quilt shop to join my JLW Club 16 for 2017 this year!

If they aren’t offering it, you can go to my webstore and you can still join in the fun!

Happy Sewing!

Coming soon to a quilt shop near you! JLWC 15 for 2016

First, I’m sorry I’ve been awol for a while, that is what two book deadlines do to good intentions.

One deadline down, the other is coming soon, I’m now in good shape to make it before Russ and I leave on vacation in 3 weeks minus a day.

Spring Quilt Market is also around the corner in mid May, secret sewing is important for Market.

Sneak Peek – JLW Club 15 for 2016

Ta-da – the quilts and/or quilt tops are made, a few need MQ and bound.

I’m leaving Monday for a trip that was planned a year ago, I will finish things up when I return home in December.

Thought you may enjoy a ‘sneak peek’ to tide you over for now.

Due to Russ’s recent back surgery he is unable to travel with me, sad about that, but happy that he is finally on the mend after a couple of hiccups.  Also happy to say he can be ‘home alone’ in charge of the two fur-kids.

The tease is that the pictures are not accurate as to size of the blocks.

Blessings for a Happy Thanksgiving!

And now for something entirely different . . .

Sounds a bit like Monty Python don’t you think?

First – do you follow me on Instagram?   I’m registered as:  joquilts
Look to the right sidebar here on my blog with the most recent photos from me.

Instagram (easy to post from my smart phone) pushes the pictures with captions to:  Jo Morton Facebook page, as you have to have a Facebook personal page before you can create a Facebook business page.

My Blog pushes to my Facebook business page:  Jo Morton Quilts

Also on Facebook is a new:  Jo Morton Stitchers group

I’m on Pinterest as:  Jo Morton

My Blog can be reached through my website, or you can sign up for my Blog posts to arrive in your mail box.  (that would be my choice – sign up box on the right side bar on my blog)

We also have our JoMortonStitchers Yahoo Group since September 2005, you have to sign up to be a member of yahoo then request to join JoMortonStitchers to see what we are doing there.  An exciting 2015 WIP Challenge is happening there, fun to see the progress as they post pictures.

If you can follow all of that, I’ll be seeing you there, and there, and there!    🙂

NEW JLW Club 14 for 2015

First – a picture showing the projects in my new JLW Club 14 for 2015.  the Medallion quilt will cover 2 months, so we have 8 months of projects for 2015.  Due to life circumstances we are starting a month later than normal. A lot of Clubs take a month or two off in the summer, then there are the Holidays when it is harder to gather, so it all works out just fine.

A note due to a picture I posted on Instagram last Fall, I put my Burgoyne Surrounded quilt on the bed in the Hilton – it looked awesome.  So, I made a Burgoyne Surrounded block, added borders for a table topper, now if ‘you’ want to make more blocks and make a bed size quilt, you can!  You will have to figure out your sashing and borders for the size you need.

JLW Club 14 for 2015

JLW Club 14 for 2015

New for 2015 – I receive so many requests about buying the pattern sets for my JLW Club because the local Quilt Shop doesn’t offer it, or it is too far away to drive to meetings.

My club as always included a fabric purchase, not just the pattern set.

With that thought in mind, and like other designers do . . . I’m going to offer a package consisting of the complete pattern set for Club 14, plus the 26 Fat Quarters purchase required when you join a Club.  The Fat Quarters will be an assortment of colors and lights from newer lines and older lines.  Bundles will not all be the exact same due to quantities on hand.

My price will be less, as you are not getting the ‘human attention with a Club Leader’, just the basics, no fun with friends, no demos, no tutorials.

You can order JLWC 14 in my webstore here. I will begin shipping in February.

Jo’s Club 14

  • pattern set and fabric bundle is $95.00
  • plus applicable Sales Tax in Nebraska
  • plus Priority Mail Flat Rate Shipping, medium box – $11.30 in USA
  • Priority Mail Flat Rate Shipping, medium box – $40.15 to Canada
  • Priority Mail Flat Rate Shipping, medium box – $58.65 to All Other Countries

Wishes for a really great New Year!

More pictures

These pictures are from Christmas – thought that you may enjoy seeing them as they are not all red/green like you may have thought I would use.   🙂

When you read this I’ll be in NYC working on future fabric lines for us.  Since that work is ‘top secret’, this will amuse you for now I hope.

Bought this 'Q' when I was in McKinney, TX last Fall, it is on the wall at the studio, thinking of moving it to another place on the wall with some other stuff.

Retreat!

I flew to Texas a week ago and went to a sewing Retreat with my friend Betsy.  I cut about 1300 squares the first day (assorted lights and darks), then sewed and sewed for 3, count them 3 glorious days.  It was a bit warm in Texas so  I was quite happy to stay inside and sew.

OK, you ask – why cut squares, why didn’t I cut strips.  I’m a control freak!  Mostly I didn’t want identical blocks, I wanted scrappy, so I cut squares and I can’t tell you what size, it is a secret.  Cutting squares was my plan.

I did get to shop for fabric at Lone Star House of Quilts in Arlington, TX and Common Threads in Waxahachie, TX – was fun to shop for repro fabrics and I’ve added to my fabric collection.  I found a piece from an Andover line (Winterthur, John Hewson) that I was looking for!

Some of the blocks made from these squares will be in a project for the new JLW Club for next year.

I flew home yesterday (Monday), and now playing catch-up!  I need get bills paid, orders shipped, groceries in the fridge, laundry, you know all the normal stuff you get to do other than the orders – then I get to go sew.    I need to finish sewing  a top together that is on my design wall, so there is room to play with what I sewed.

Hope you are enjoying your summer!

never too soon to think about Christmas!

Here are some pictures from Christmas 2012, it was the simplify decor year (health), but still have to decorate some.  If you like any of the quilts you see in the pictures, you have plenty of time to get yours done for Christmas 2013.

These pictures are in our home with our stuff – collected for a long time.

Last of basket quilts for now . . .

I have just a few more to share for now.

The first one is a small basket quilt that was in my JLW Club 8, I really like the setting on this small quilt and always planned to make another one in different colors as I saw so many posted to the Stitchers Group the year that Club 8 ran.  I loved so many of them and wanted another one, well that hasn’t happened yet, hopefully one of these days.

Meg's Baskets - JLW Club 8

This next quilt is interesting in that it started out to be just the 25 Patch blocks.  I didn’t’ like them when I got them sewed.  Appliqué always makes things better, so designed and stitched the center block in a size to fit, then added figured out and added the outer border.  This quilt ended up JLW Club #1 !!

Prairie Basket, JLW Club #1

The next picture shows the small version of the appliqué baskets from the book by Blackbird Designs, ‘When the Cold Wind Blows’.  I like it over the back of the windsor bench in our dining room.

my small version of a quilt in Blackbird Designs book 'When the Cold Wind Blows', I enjoyed stitching it two or three years ago during the winter, and now enjoy it over the back of the windsor bench in the Spring of the year.

This next to the last quilt was a gift from a nice lady when I went to Winfield, Illinois to teach a few years ago at the Quilt Merchant.  I was surprised and pleased to take this treasure home with me.  Here it is shown over a vintage windsor chair in the den before we bought furniture for the den and after our kitchen remodel.    I like how it looks here and also use it over the arm of the love seat in our living room.

Wonderful basket quilt gift from a few years ago.

And finally here is the sweet little basket quilt I made from the exchange blocks from a hand pieced block exchange on the Stitchers Group.

The blocks were made using Cindy Blackberg’s stamps so the blocks would be the same size in the exchange.  This is a precious memory quilt for me with blocks from internet friends, some I’ve been lucky enough to meet in person.  You can see the entire assortment of stamps that Cindy offers on her website:  www.cindyblackberg.com
