2017 Moda BlockHeads BOW – block 33

It is our special day of the week, and it is ‘my’ block this week!

First the question of the week – it is Fall, Halloween is less than 2 weeks away and Christmas is in 2 months . . . do you make seasonal quilts?  When do you start making them?

I make quilts that are seasonal by color and I make them whenever I feel like it, or have a new fabric line that makes it easy.  I have a collection of these type of seasonal of quilts, so I’m not in a hurry.

I don’t make Halloween quilts with pumpkins or black cats stitched on them, but I do make small quilts in blacks, rust, cheddar and golds for this time of year. Think along the lines of Four Patches, Nine Patches, Log Cabins, simple blocks where it is fun to play with color.  Place a wooden pumpkin, along with artificial leaves and perhaps a carved black cat atop your quilt in Halloween colors.  Voila!

Obviously Christmas quilts are mostly red and green, again not Holiday Motifs, and it just so happens I have a new fabric line called ‘New Hope’, it has reds, greens, golds, great neutral prints with color, beautiful blacks and  . . . it ships in January 2018, just around the corner. I’m having so much fun sewing with it, but I can’t show you yet, watch my Instagram  @joquilts  while I’m in Houston.  I hope it is a wee bit inspiring.

Now to this weeks block, I played with color placement to create a framed block.  Hope you like it, of course you can rearrange colors to suit your needs.

First – see the clipped seam intersections for pressing:

And, now my block:

Block 33

Currently, I’m trying to figure out so the colors work together, for the end of our block journey.  I do not have a setting yet, I’m pretty sure I will (that means ‘have to’) as the end gets closer.

Be sure and see what our friends have done with this block:

Last, but certainly NOT least is the link to the permanent page, and the link to our friend David’s Directory for our FB Group that includes everything BlockHeads related.  We cannot thank David enough for his help in getting ‘us’ and our posts ironed out for you.

One last thought to share, Fall really is my very favorite season. I love the coolness in the air, can still sit on the patio and enjoy the bird chirps coming in to ‘feed’, enjoy the colors changing, enjoy a beverage of choice in the evening, and enjoy a nice visit with DH.  Life is very good in Nebraska, jackets are also a ‘good thing’.

Winter coats are around the corner, and I really love the sights and sounds of Christmas.  I’m grateful for many things in my life, and I think at this time of year, those things come forward and I’m very thankful.

Enjoy these evenings!

Until next week, happy sewing!  Jo
