2017 Moda Blockheads BOW – block 27

That special day of the week Wednesday, and that means a new block for you!

It feels like Fall in the air here in SE Nebraska.  Long jeans and a denim shirt day, really gorgeous weather to be outside!  Pretty sure it will warm up again.  Weather swings keep us on our toes, with warmer/cooler clothes near at hand.

This weeks question:   is there a product-tool-ruler you wish you’d invented. Actually no, does that surprise you?  When I learned quiltmaking it was by hand, I loved it. I did embrace a few tools and products over the years. What I want to invent is more stitching time.  FYI – I’m working on it!

This is my week, I chose the Union block.  I’ve loved this block for years and years. Thanks to a friendships block exchange a few years ago, I now have two quilts made with this block.  Great choice for scrappy quilts!

First is the pressing:

Block 27, pressing

Here is the block! I have no extra tips, it easily went together. It is made with HST’s (be sure you square them to the correct size), a square in a square in a square block in the center, and 4 rectangles.  Watch your seam allowance, be consistent.  A little clipping and artful pressing and you too will have a beautiful block.

The two background fabrics are from my new line that ships in Jan/Feb 2018, named ‘New Hope’, the other pieces are from ‘Timeless’, it recently arrived in your local or favorite quilt shop.

  1. I’m sure that if I could invent something that would cause you to lose weight while quilting I would be a millionaire several times over

  2. Thank you for the lovely block this week, Jo. One thing that I would love on the BH patterns would be adding unit sizes. I know that I can figure them out, but it would be nice to have them included in the patterns just to be sure. Have a great day!

    • Tracey, the patterns are all written the same way, and they were all written before we began this journey, it won’t change. But, the good news is – “you have skills”, you’ve worked it out for yourself! Seriously having skills fixes most problems we have. Happy for you, and wishes for many more hours of happy sewing! Jo
