fabric – time to confess or fess up?

Ladies, just like you, I do shop for fabric in quilt shops. Yes I’m a fabric designer, but I like other designers lines and pieces too!

That means I do buy fabrics produced by ‘other’ Fabric Companies.

See I really am just like you.

I love my fabric lines, and have made lots and lots of quilts with them, but I go shopping, just like you do.

I’ve received numerous requests for “what is that border fabric” on a couple of quilts in the “Simple Friendships” book that is co-authored with my friend Kim Diehl.

Shhh, I have a closet of non-Jo fabric, of course I’ve been quilting since 1980, the early fabrics were no where near the gorgeous quality we have today, so I’m guessing my closet is collecting from around 20 years ago to recent. My closet makes me happy, not saying how big my closet is, because we don’t compare our fabric collections do we.

Here is a picture of the 2 pieces most requested, and I also show you that I have one design also in red and brown, so you will probably see it in a red and brown quilt at some point.

One fabric is Blue Hill (no longer in business), the other is a Windham.  I have no idea how old either are, no years are printed on fabric line selvages.  But I’m guess 3 to 5 years old.

Substituting could probably be the key, pick a border fabric, then the accompanying pieces to sew the blocks.  Make your life easier!

Happy Sewing!

Of course the conversation continues . . .

Some of us are ‘out of’ fabrics to be able to offer the great little bundles.  Some have purchased the layer cakes – perfect solution!

But hey, there is always good news!

We designers keep designing new lines, don’t we, so we will be offering new bundles through the year as new lines appear on the horizon from us BlockHeads. We will be including these new lines in our BOW blocks.

Join in the fun!

Update February 15th on 2017 Moda BlockHeads BOW

First you ladies make me smile, some address notes to ‘staff’ at Jo Morton Quilts. Please let me introduce you to Chloe:

Staff

Most of the time Chloe can be found here resting, or curled up in one of the chairs around the house, she isn’t worth a darn in my office, she shuffles paperwork, that move is not appreciated, but other than that, she is kind of cute, a sweet kitty and has a great motor!

Back to ‘business’, many have asked or begged for more of the Reflections bundles.  Last Saturday I hired three friends, we cut from all 34 pieces of Reflections, then assorted them into piles of 24 pieces for the bundles.  I don’t have enough fabric to cut more for you, I had no idea of the response would be as great as it was, it sold out in about 4 1/2 hours, sorry the planning on my end was lacking, but then in my defense, this is my ‘first’ BOW or a sew along.

My suggestion, if you missed out on a bundle, how about checking with your local or fav quilt shop, buy a layer cake of Reflections!  Then you will have pieces of ‘all’ of the 34 fabrics in the line, plus some duplicates as all layer cakes have 42 pieces.

So, you will be able to join in the fun, just another step.  You have time we don’t officially begin until March 8th.

The other frequently asked question, where do we get the blocks?

‘Follow’ one or all of the Blogs or websites from the participating designers mentioned below, each week we will show that weeks block in our fabric choices accompanied by the free PDF pattern download.  You click on the link and print it out.

Update on Reflections bundles for our Moda 2017 BlockHeads BOW

Sorry to report, no more bundles will be available from Jo.

I hired 3 friends, we cut 1632 sweet 16’s, sorted into stacks of 24, inserted in plastic bags all day Saturday so I can ship the orders tomorrow (Monday).  We cut up what I had available for this project. I had no idea there would be this kind of response, however I am shipping to 68 happy ladies.
I look forward to seeing your blocks during our 48 week sew-along BOW!

Moda BOW Designers, Lynne, Jan, Betsy, Lisa, Jo and our 6th partner is the famous Carrie Nelson!

This fun Block of the Week officially starts Wednesday March 8, Lynne of Kansas Troubles is the kick off designer.

I know you want to sew along with us!

I’ll have my bundles, like the other designers, 24 pieces of ‘Sweet 16’s” cuts, these are 9″ x 11″ pieces, from my new ‘Reflections’ line that shipped in late January, so it is brand new!  My line has a total of 34 pieces so the bundles will vary a bit.

Bundle price is $18.00, plus a flat $6.00 USPS shipping, this will be a buy now on my website.  If you live in Nebraska sales tax will be added to the $24.00 total.

My bundles will be available for purchase next week, check the front page for the ‘buy now’ button.

Watch for our logo, don’t want to miss anything!

Stay tuned for updates, looking forward to sewing with you!
