I think a Blog post is kind of over due, so here we go!
I think we all purchased the great ‘Make It Mini’ magazine this spring by Better Homes and Gardens. Was on the newsstands, available in Barnes & Noble and in many Quilt Shops, hope you have your copy! There are so many great small projects to enjoy in your home or to make for gifts for special friends. I actually have 3 of my quilts from prior American Patchwork & Quilting Magazines in this issue, am sharing what I did with one of them.
This picture is of the original quilt I made and submitted for publication, a while back. You remember it don’t you!
Laura Boehnke, who works for the magazine, creates many of the projects ‘in other colors’ for inspiration, she came up with this mini version for us to enjoy.
Laura made hers in Blues . . . so very pretty!
Don’t you love it!
Well, I have a new fabric line coming out in August with Moda Fabrics, pretty pumped about it, so for Quilt Market I remade the smaller version in red using the reds from my new fabric line named ‘Gratitude’.
Now you really ‘need’ to make it come August, hope you already have the magazine!
Happy Stitching!
Mmmm, yummy! I must look for the mag here in Australia. I love all the minis and tend to make them by hand rather than machine. I draw up the blocks, and recreate the pieces with template plastic then trace the pieces ready to hand piece. A slow and long way around but I really enjoy doing this. I wish some books had aternatives to rotary cutting and machine piecing.. It is becomming a lost art. Looking forard to your new fabric line release. ,
I have the magazine and pre-ordered the fabrics. Looking forward to creating the mini. Love the red version.
Where can you pre order the fabric?
Well, I don’t know. If you ask on the JoMortonStitchers Yahoo group or the Jo Morton Stitchers Facebook, I’m pretty sure someone may know something I don’t know. Or ask at your fav or local quilt shop if they have ordered it.
Where can I get a copy of the BH&G April 2016 “Make It Mini”? Have not been able to find it in my area and not available on Amazon. Thanks
BH&G, April 2016 ‘Make it Mini’ – try newsstands, Barnes and Noble, grocery stores or try their website. Hope it isn’t sold out!
Fat Quarter Shop – Texas, still has some on their website!
Thank you Diane!
Love that fabric. Have magazine and am waiti g for fabric in August.
Hello Jo. I have been searching for a pattern of yours titled Pieceful Times. Do you know where I can get one? I have not been successful. Thank you. Judi
Judi, it wasn’t a pattern it was in my book ‘Remembrances’. I sill have a few of the books available on my website.
I received a copy of Make It Mini as a retirement gift from a dear friend. It inspired me to make some minis from my grandmother’s tiny quilt scraps dating back to the 40s perhaps. Due to a move I haven’t started any projects yet, but now I have Jo’s Little Favorites to get me started again! Will you have a JLW club in 2017? I just love your quilts!
Yes Sarah, I’m having a new Club for next year, writing directions now.
It will be available in your favorite or local quilt shop, and on my website sometime around the middle of January.
Have fun getting settled after your move, getting your sewing space set up to sew is as important as the kitchen, right?
Merry Christmas!
Jo
Will you autograph books that are pre-ordered?
Kimberly, yes I will!
